The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed heavy sanctions on Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) over security breaches and crowd violence during their Matchday 32 fixture against Ikorodu City.
Following the incident at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, the league's disciplinary panel on Wednesday found 3SC guilty of multiple offenses, including failure to provide adequate security and failure to control their fans, which led to the assault on Ikorodu City’s contingent.
The club was fined a total of N3 million for the following infractions:
N1 million for inadequate security that allowed unauthorized persons into restricted areas, leading to harassment of match officials.
N1 million for failure to control fans who assaulted the visiting team’s supporters, breaching Rule C9.
N1 million for fans throwing objects onto the pitch and at referees, violating Rule B13.18.
Additionally, 3SC is to pay N2 million to Ikorodu City as compensation for damages to their team bus, bringing the total financial penalty to N5 million.
As part of the punishment, the Lekan Salami Stadium has been closed to fans for the remainder of the season, effective immediately.
Under Rule C26, Shooting Stars have 48 hours to either accept the verdict or file an appeal.
