"Securing the Points Was Key" – Adanna Nnah Praises Abia Angels' Dominant Display

Abia Angels FC claimed an important 2-0 victory over Dannaz Ladies FC in their latest NWFL Premiership encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium. The win strengthens their push for a playoff spot as they continue their impressive run in the second round of the league.

The hosts started the match on the front foot, dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. Their persistence paid off in the 30th minute when Abia Angels opened the scoring through a well-struck free kick by Akwubo Obianuju. The goal came after Mary Lucky was fouled close to the edge of the penalty box, and Obianuju's shot took a crucial deflection off Toyyibat Abdulazeez to beat goalkeeper Jimoh Selimot.

Abia Angels doubled their lead later in the game when youthful attacker Chiamaka Ojialor combined brilliantly with her teammates before firing a powerful shot past Selimot to make it 2-0. The clinical finish sealed maximum points for the Umuahia-based side.

Speaking after the match, Abia Angels' head coach, Adanna Nnah, praised the performance of her players and commended their opponents. "Dannaz Ladies are a good team and gave a strong fight today. We dominated the game, created the chances, and crucially, took them. Getting the goals was key for us because securing the points is very important in our playoff push," she said.

The result pushes Abia Angels FC to third place in Group A of the NWFL Premiership standings with 16 points. With the playoffs in sight, the team will be aiming to build on this positive momentum in their upcoming fixtures.

Abia Angels’ defense also deserves credit for keeping Dannaz Ladies’ attackers at bay. Goalkeeper Vivian Nwogu was rarely troubled throughout the match, thanks to a disciplined backline that maintained focus from start to finish.

Meanwhile, Dannaz Ladies FC showed resilience despite the defeat. They created some promising chances but lacked the cutting edge needed to break down Abia Angels’ organized defense.

Looking ahead, Abia Angels FC will host Edo Queens in what promises to be a thrilling encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium next week. Edo Queens, known for their attacking prowess, will pose a significant challenge, making the clash a crucial test for Adanna Nnah’s side.

With just a few games remaining before the playoffs, Abia Angels FC will need to maintain their winning form to secure a spot in the knockout phase. Their determination, coupled with strong performances like this, keeps their playoff dreams alive.

Fans are expected to turn out in large numbers for the next fixture, as Abia Angels look to solidify their position in the NWFL Premiership top three.
