The Nationwide League One (NLO) has taken a significant step to improve player identification and curb illegal transfers by upgrading its website with a Face ID application. This innovation marks a first in Nigeria’s football ecosystem.
Olushola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NLO, confirmed that the new feature is designed to eliminate doubts about player eligibility.
The Face ID app will play a key role in preventing 'player poaching' — a common issue where clubs attempt to illegally register players already tied to other teams. If such an attempt occurs, the system will automatically notify the player’s original club via email, alerting them about the registration attempt and emphasizing the need for proper clearance.
This technological advancement is expected to enhance transparency and protect clubs from losing players without due process.
