In a heartwarming display of compassion and social responsibility, the Enyimba Foundation, led by Chairman Kanu ‘Papilo’ Nwankwo, has once again reaffirmed its commitment to giving back to society. The club’s charitable arm recently visited the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and the Motherless Babies Home in Aba, spreading joy and providing much-needed support to those in need.
Since its inception last season, this initiative has become an annual tradition, reinforcing the belief that football is more than just a sport—it is also a vehicle for love, humanity, and community service. The Foundation donated essential items and financial assistance to hospital patients and orphans, bringing relief to the less privileged.
Kanu, a FIFA legend and the visionary behind both the Kanu Heart Foundation and Enyimba Foundation, emphasized the importance of uplifting lives beyond football. Speaking to Enyimba Media, he highlighted the club’s ongoing dedication to serving the community.
"It's all about Enyimba Foundation. Last season, we visited the hospital and celebrated with the patients. Last Easter, we held a get-together with motherless babies' homes. This year, again, we are here to visit the hospital and celebrate with them. We pray for them, and they in turn pray for us," Kanu said.
His noble gesture has drawn praise from within the football fraternity. Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme underscored the importance of clubs taking on social responsibility, stressing that football extends beyond the pitch to making a meaningful impact on lives.
"It's good to be kind because, in football, it's not just about playing on the pitch but also about how you relate with people and impact the needy," Ekwueme said. "Some thought this initiative would collapse after the first edition, but it has come to stay—just like the Kanu Heart Foundation. We urge other clubs to emulate this wonderful idea."
Former Super Eagles defender and Enyimba FC board member Uche Okechukwu, also known as the "Gentle Giant," expressed his delight at seeing the initiative thrive. He recalled last year’s edition and emphasized the need to continue giving those in need a sense of belonging.
The impact of Enyimba Foundation’s generosity was evident in the appreciation shown by hospital officials and caregivers at the motherless babies' home. Dr. Chinonyerem Ohuka, Chief Medical Director, and Mrs. Angela Ndubuisi, Director of Nursing, along with young Master Praise, conveyed their gratitude and offered prayers for Kanu and his team.
With key Enyimba management figures, including Chief of Staff Sam Anozie, Team Manager Prince Okey Nwabeke (KSC), and club legend Obinna Nwaneri, in attendance, the event further solidified the club’s reputation as more than just a football powerhouse—it is a force for good in society.
