Bayelsa United Edge Rivers United in Yenagoa Battle

Rivers United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Wednesday evening, marking their seventh loss of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Malik's Strike Seals It for Bayelsa

The only goal of the match came in the 19th minute when Kehinde Malik capitalized on a counterattack from the left flank, firing a long-range shot past the Rivers United defense. Despite pressing for an equalizer, Rivers United found Bayelsa United’s backline resolute.

Phillip Odubia, Samson Obi, and Ubong Friday all tried to break through, but Bayelsa's defense held firm. The home side extended their unbeaten run to three games, showing why they have been in strong form.

Missed Chances Cost Rivers United

Rivers United had opportunities to level the score, with Samson Obi coming closest. He won possession, took a shot on target, but Bayelsa United goalkeeper Clinton Ezekiel pulled off a superb save. Mathias Samuel struck the woodwork from a free-kick, while Ubong Friday forced Ezekiel into a double save. Emmanuel Nnaji also saw a shot narrowly miss the target.

Goalkeeper Pius Ibrahim, who replaced Osagie Onisodumeya at halftime, delivered a standout performance, making two crucial saves in the closing minutes to prevent Bayelsa from extending their lead.
