Remo Stars Extend Winning Streak with Fourth Double of the Season

Remo Stars of Ikenne maintained their dominance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a 2-1 victory over Kano Pillars on Saturday. This triumph marks their fourth consecutive double since the league's second stanza began last month, highlighting their impressive form in the title race.

Having secured a 2-0 win against Kano Pillars in the first leg last September, Remo Stars completed another double in style. They have achieved the same feat against Akwa United, Abia Warriors, and Sunshine Stars, asserting their superiority over key opponents.

With an upcoming fixture against Enugu Rangers in Enugu next Sunday, Remo Stars have the chance to secure a fifth double of the season. They previously defeated Rangers 2-1 in Ikenne, and another win would further solidify their position at the top of the NPFL standings.

Remo Stars’ consistency this season has seen them hold the top spot for over five matchdays. Their current form suggests they are serious contenders for the league title, as they continue to extend their lead over closest rivals.

Following their latest victory, Remo Stars now have 45 points, sitting comfortably ahead of Shooting Stars, who are in second place with 40 points. However, Shooting Stars still have an outstanding away fixture against Kwara United, which could help close the gap at the top.

The Ikenne-based side wasted no time in asserting dominance against Kano Pillars. Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring early, capitalizing on Segun Ogunribide’s precise cross. The lead was doubled in the 40th minute when Ibrahim Abubakar converted a rebound, putting Remo Stars in firm control of the game.

Kano Pillars responded just before halftime, with Abba Adam scoring his fifth league goal of the season. He connected with an Abdullah's cross in the eighth minute of first-half stoppage time to reduce the deficit, but it was not enough to deny Remo Stars another crucial victory.

Elsewhere, Shooting Stars edged Bendel Insurance 1-0 in Ibadan, a result that pushes Insurance closer to the relegation zone. With just 25 points, Bendel Insurance now sits in 15th place, only two points ahead of 17th-placed Sunshine Stars.

In another fixture, El-Kanemi Warriors secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United in Maiduguri. Umar Al Amin’s 33rd-minute goal was enough to earn El-Kanemi a crucial three points, keeping them within reach of mid-table stability.

As the season progresses, Remo Stars will look to maintain their momentum and continue their push for the NPFL title. With their next challenge against Enugu Rangers, another victory could further strengthen their grip at the summit of the table.
