Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has played down his team's 2-0 loss to Kwara United, describing it as a temporary setback. The defeat ended 3SC’s unbeaten streak in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), as they struggled against a determined Kwara United side in Ilorin.
The rescheduled matchday 20 encounter saw Kwara United dominate proceedings, scoring a goal in each half to secure all three points. The Oluyole Warriors were unable to respond, as their usually potent attack failed to break down the resolute defense of the home side.
Speaking after the match, Ogunbote, fondly known as "The Oracle," admitted that his team had an off day. He noted that setbacks are part of football and urged his players to learn from the experience.
"This is just a temporary setback. We need to pick up the pieces and take the positives from it," Ogunbote said. "Sometimes, when you do not manage success well, you pay a price. But when you experience defeat and understand why, you can bounce back stronger."
The experienced tactician emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes and making the necessary corrections. He stated that his team must quickly regroup and refocus on the remaining matches in the campaign.
"Our main objective now is to recover from this defeat. We must analyze our mistakes, correct them, and move forward," he added. "Kwara United were very desperate to win, and they fought hard for it."
Despite the loss, Ogunbote remains optimistic about his team's chances in the NPFL title race. He believes that the competition is still open, with many games left to play and only a few points separating the top teams.
"The title race is not over yet. With the number of matches remaining and the close points gap, any team can still emerge as champions," he stressed.
3SC will now turn their attention to their next fixture, where they will be looking to return to winning ways. The team’s ability to respond positively to this setback will be crucial in their quest for a strong league finish.
