NPFL: Akwa United Assistant Coach Claims Deserved Victory Against Enyimba

Akwa United assistant coach, Orok Akrandut, has stated that his team fully deserved their 2-1 victory over Enyimba International in their NPFL clash on Sunday. The match, held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, saw the Promise Keepers secure a crucial win against the People’s Elephant.

The result comes at a time when Akwa United has struggled for consistency this season. However, against Enyimba, they delivered a strong performance that earned them all three points. Akrandut praised the team’s fighting spirit and determination, crediting their desire to win as a key factor in the victory.

“We are excited about the win. It was a tough match, and both teams needed the victory, but we wanted it more,” Akrandut told the club’s media. “That determination drove our players to fight hard and play according to the game plan to secure all three points.”

Despite some missed opportunities, Akwa United created several chances and capitalized on two of them. Akrandut acknowledged that improving their finishing remains a priority but was pleased with how the team executed their attacking plays.

“We’re happy that the two goals we scored earned us the maximum points, and we will continue working on our finishing,” he added. “Scoring more than your opponent is key to winning games.”

The assistant coach emphasized the importance of the win in boosting the team’s morale, especially as they aim for a better position on the league table. He believes the victory could serve as a turning point for Akwa United’s campaign.

“Our current position on the log isn’t where we want to be, so we must build on this momentum,” he said. “Consistency is key if we are to achieve the results we’re aiming for.”

Enyimba, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the outcome, as they sought to close the gap on the league leaders. The defeat is a setback for Yemi Olanrewaju’s side, who will need to regroup ahead of their next fixture.

Akwa United will now shift their focus to their upcoming away match against Sunshine Stars in Ikenne this weekend. The team hopes to build on their recent victory and secure back-to-back wins.

For Enyimba, the challenge will be to recover quickly and avoid further slip-ups as they continue their NPFL campaign. The former champions will be eager to bounce back in their next fixture and stay competitive in the title race.
