Enyimba FC-HamKam FC Partnership: A Game-Changer for Nigerian Youth Football Development

The Enyimba International Stadium in Aba witnessed another historic moment as Enyimba FC hosted the second edition of their football partnership program with Norwegian club HamKam FC. Held from February 14th to 17th, 2025, the initiative reinforced Enyimba’s commitment to youth development, talent discovery, and grassroots football growth under the leadership of club chairman Kanu Nwankwo.

Elevating Nigerian Football Through Strategic Partnerships

With Enyimba Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme, a former Super Eagles winger, leading the program, young Nigerian players received world-class training, mentorship, and exposure to European football standards. FIFA-licensed agent Leon Bardachi, HamKam FC Team Manager Chris Twiddy, and Sporting Director Jorgen Bjorn spearheaded rigorous football development sessions for Enyimba’s youth coaches and players.

Ekwueme stressed the long-term benefits of the partnership, calling for other Nigerian clubs to adopt similar youth-focused initiatives.

"This is What We Want Other Clubs to Emulate" – Ifeanyi Ekwueme

“The development we are doing now is a long-term structure. When they say Enyimba FC is the number one team in Nigeria and Africa, this is why. We want other clubs in Nigeria to emulate what Enyimba FC is doing to develop young talents so that we can have the same youth development structure nationwide.”

Coaching Impact and Knowledge Transfer

Enyimba’s youth team coach, King-Joe Akuma, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration and its influence on his coaching approach.

"We Have Learnt a Lot from HamKam FC" – Coach King-Joe Akuma

“I thank Enyimba Chairman Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo and our Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme for their efforts so far. We have learnt a lot from the HamKam FC partnership and training program. I will work towards implementing what we have been taught to help my players develop.”

This knowledge exchange between European and Nigerian football structures ensures Enyimba’s young players benefit from modern coaching techniques and professional football culture.

Kanu Nwankwo’s Vision: Enyimba as a Model for Nigerian Football

Since assuming the role of chairman, Kanu Nwankwo has aimed to restore Enyimba’s dominance while creating a solid foundation for the club’s future. His leadership has emphasized youth development as a key to long-term success.

The partnership with HamKam FC is part of this vision, providing a steady pipeline of well-trained homegrown talent for Enyimba while strengthening Nigerian football at all levels.

Football as a Tool for Social Change

Beyond football development, this initiative aligns with Abia State’s youth empowerment strategy under Governor Dr. Alex Otti. By engaging young players in structured programs, the initiative offers them a pathway to professional careers while reducing the risks of social vices.

With two successful editions of the Enyimba-HamKam FC program already completed, the collaboration is set to provide even more opportunities for Nigerian players to experience European football and for Enyimba’s coaches to refine their expertise.

As Enyimba FC continues to lead Nigerian club football, the club’s message is clear—sustainable youth development is the foundation for long-term success. Through strategic partnerships and visionary leadership, the People's Elephant is not just strengthening its squad but also shaping the future of Nigerian football.
