Shooting Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has pinpointed a critical area the team must address to maintain their status as NPFL title contenders.
Ogunbote, who masterminded a perfect December for Shooting Stars—winning all five matches without conceding a goal—has acknowledged that despite their remarkable turnaround, the team is struggling in attack.
The team climbed from 14th in October to 3rd place by the end of the first half of the season, making them early contenders for the title. However, Ogunbote insists that to sustain their momentum over the remaining 19 games, reinforcements in the attacking department are essential.
“We managed the team to this level, even the blind can see we have issues in the attack,” Ogunbote told Sports247.
The coach confirmed that the club is actively searching for strikers as the mid-season transfer window opens on January 7, 2025.
“We are condemned to get centre-forward players. We are already on the lookout and are trusting God to bring in two or three reinforcements. In that area, we are completely deficit, so we need to solve it,” Ogunbote added.
Shooting Stars have managed just 18 goals in 19 games this season, averaging a goal per match. Their away form in front of goal has been particularly concerning, with only four goals scored on the road.
With a strong defensive foundation already in place, Ogunbote hopes the addition of clinical attackers will transform Shooting Stars into genuine title challengers for the second half of the season.
