Enyimba head coach, Stanley Eguma, has praised Brown Ideye's significant contribution in their resounding 4-1 victory over Mozambique's Black Bullets in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Ideye, who came off the bench to score a goal, provided Enyimba with much-needed attacking options as the team secured their first win in the group stage after four matches. The result also marked an improvement in Enyimba’s goal-scoring form, boosting their hopes of progressing from the group.
"Brown Ideye is a household name, and his presence is a big plus for the team," Eguma said after the match. "Though he’s not fully fit since he just joined, it’s a gradual process, and in the near future, he will add even more to the team."
Eguma described the emphatic win as a New Year’s gift to Nigerians and commended his players for developing a winning mentality despite challenges, including injuries to key players.
"We had injuries to some key players, but it didn’t deter me. We improvised at the holding midfield position, using Innocent Gabriel, a center-back, and he delivered," Eguma explained. "Today, we’ve raised the pace and shifted to a winning mentality."
With four points in the group, Enyimba remains at the bottom of the table but retains a chance to advance. A victory against Al Masry in Uyo on Sunday could prove pivotal, as group leaders Zamalek and Black Bullets, with 8 and 4 points respectively, will face off in their next match.
Enyimba’s fate is firmly in their hands, as wins in their final two group-stage matches may secure their place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
