The Super Eagles B team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, securing a resounding 5-0 victory over Nationwide League One side Emmydinho FC at the Remo Stars Sports Facility in Ikenne. The emphatic win signals their readiness for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
This victory follows a 1-0 win against Grassrunners FC in their first friendly match, where Papa Daniel’s penalty secured the result. The improved display against Emmydinho FC demonstrates the squad’s growing cohesion and preparation for the high-stakes double-header against their long-standing rivals.
Sikiru Alimi, forward for Remo Stars, set the tone early, scoring in the 19th minute after rounding the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net. He doubled the lead three minutes later, converting a precise low cross from Samuel Ayanrinde. Ayanrinde added his name to the scoresheet just two minutes later, making it 3-0 with a brilliant strike.
Before halftime, Ayanrinde turned provider again, setting up Alimi for his second goal and the Super Eagles B’s fourth. The dominant first-half display was followed by a more subdued second half, as the coaching staff made wholesale changes to avoid injuries and assess other players. Vincent Temitope added the final goal in the fifth minute of added time to seal the 5-0 victory.
The team’s strong showing in these friendlies highlights their determination to excel in the CHAN qualifiers. The Super Eagles B will visit Ghana’s 40,000-capacity Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 22, for the first leg before hosting the Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, December 28.
