Coach Christian Obi has tragically passed away following a severe accident that occurred while he was en route to the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-Season Tournament in Abakaliki with Heartland FC. The Heartland FC vehicle, transporting the coach and team, was involved in the incident near Umunna, close to Okigwe in Imo State.
According to Ifeanyi Dike, the Chairman of the Imo Football Association, the confirmation of Coach Obi’s death has been received. Dike expressed his condolences, saying, “I have been contacted. It’s been confirmed. May his soul rest in perfect peace...Amen!”
The accident occurred when the vehicle, in a desperate attempt to avoid an oncoming car, collided with another vehicle that had been carelessly parked as a result of a previous accident. The collision has resulted in a significant loss and has cast a shadow over the pre-season tournament.
The incident highlights the inherent risks associated with travel and the need for heightened vigilance on the roads. The football community mourns the loss of Coach Obi, whose contributions will be remembered with respect and sorrow.
