Kano Pillars FC secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Discovery Academy in their second Group C fixture of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament, held at the New Jos Stadium on Friday, 23rd August 2024. This win further solidifies their strong showing in the pre-season competition.
From the outset, Kano Pillars FC exhibited a dominant performance. They controlled possession and consistently tested the Discovery Academy defense with a series of well-placed passes. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Zulkifilu Muhammed delivered a precise cross into the box. Captain Auwalu Ali, demonstrating excellent positioning and finishing, met the cross with a powerful volley, giving the Discovery Academy goalkeeper no chance. This goal underscored Ali’s exceptional striking ability and put Kano Pillars FC ahead.
In the second half, Kano Pillars FC continued to impose their will on the game, though they were unable to capitalize on several opportunities to extend their lead. A notable moment came in the 78th minute when Ibrahim Sani Halliru, showcasing his skill, unleashed a powerful shot that required a notable save from the Discovery Academy goalkeeper.
The decisive moment arrived in the 80th minute when Abdulmajid Aminu was fouled inside the penalty area by a Discovery Academy defender. A penalty was awarded, and Auwalu Ali, with his usual composure, converted the spot kick by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. This second goal effectively sealed the victory for Kano Pillars FC, giving them a 2-0 lead.
Despite numerous attempts by the attacking trio of Zulkifilu, Uzor, and Auwalu Ali to further enhance the scoreline, Kano Pillars FC's two-goal advantage was sufficient to secure all three points from the match.
