Boboye Eyes NPFL Glory with Sunshine Stars FC: Aiming for the Top in 2024/25 Season

Kennedy Boboye, the seasoned coach renowned for his track record in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has set an ambitious target for Sunshine Stars in the upcoming 2024/25 season. Following his successful intervention in the previous campaign to prevent the club from relegation, Boboye has articulated a clear and bold objective: winning the league title.

Boboye's return to Sunshine Stars marked a pivotal moment in the team's fortunes. After taking over the managerial reins midway through the season, he transformed the team's performance, guiding them to a respectable 10th place finish with 52 points despite a challenging start. This resurgence demonstrated Boboye’s tactical acumen and his ability to inspire and refine the squad’s capabilities.

The Owena Babes, as Sunshine Stars are known, are currently participating in the Governor Douye Diri Pre-Season tournament held in Bayelsa. Their campaign began on a positive note with a narrow 1-0 victory against the hosts, Bayelsa United. The decisive moment of the match came from new recruit Ismail Ayodele, who scored the only goal in the 35th minute, showcasing his potential impact on the team.

In a post-match interview, Boboye expressed his determination to build on the pre-season success, stating, “Our target is to win the league; nothing short of that.” He emphasized the need for continued improvement, acknowledging that the team is still in the early stages of their preparation. Boboye remains optimistic that with more time for the squad to gel, their performance will reach even higher standards.

Boboye’s credentials are well-established, having led Plateau United and Akwa United to NPFL titles in 2017 and 2021, respectively. His previous stint with Sunshine Stars was notable for guiding them to a commendable sixth-place finish during the 2015 season—one of the club’s most successful campaigns in recent years. His tenure in the 2014/15 season saw the team narrowly miss out on the title and a return to continental competitions.

With the upcoming season on the horizon, Boboye’s vision for Sunshine Stars is to leverage his experience and tactical expertise to secure the NPFL championship. His focus on addressing areas for improvement and fostering team cohesion will be crucial as Sunshine Stars aim to enhance their performance and achieve their league-winning aspirations.
