NPFL Set to Empower Match Officials with Communication Gadgets



The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is taking steps to improve the accuracy of match officiating in the upcoming 2024/2025 season. According to the league's chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, referees will be equipped with advanced communication gadgets to minimize errors.

Elegbeleye's Announcement
Elegbeleye made this announcement at the NPFL's Annual General Meeting in Abuja, stating that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) will partner with international bodies to train Nigerian referees on the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

Procurement of Communication Gadgets
The NPFL has already procured the necessary communication gadgets, which will be available to referees from the start of the new season (NPFL25). These gadgets are designed to enhance communication among match officials and reduce errors.

VAR Training
While no date has been set for the introduction of VAR in the NPFL, the NFF will work with international partners to train referees on its operations. This move is expected to further improve the accuracy of match officiating in the league.

2024/2025 NPFL Season
The 2024/2025 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on August 31, 2024, with a curtain raiser match between Rangers International and El-Kanemi Warriors in Enugu.
