According to Soccernet.ng, at the age of 19, the young winger had his first game for the German national team in 2021, with Hansi Flick as the coach. He played in four matches and even scored a goal in his debut, which unfortunately meant he couldn't join the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
Even though he has strong ties to both Nigeria and Romania, Adeyemi, whose father is Nigerian (Abbey Adeyemi) and mother is Romanian (Alexandra Adeyemi), expressed his deep connection to Nigeria and his willingness to represent the country if things were different.
After playing for Germany's U-16, U-17, and U-21 teams, Adeyemi caught the attention of the German Football Association (FA) due to his talent. His impressive performances at Red Bull Salzburg ultimately earned him a spot in the German national team.
Adeyemi visited his football academy, the Karim Adeyemi Foundation's Football Academy, at the Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan. While he was there, a 12-year-old fan asked him why he didn't play for Nigeria. Adeyemi explained that Germany had approached him first.
In an interview with Soccernet.ng, when they asked Adeyemi if he would consider playing for the Super Eagles, he confidently said yes. He spoke highly of Nigeria's football legacy and acknowledged the quality of its players. He thinks it's a fantastic national team and believes they will continue to be great in the future.
“Germany came first. If I had the chance, of course. For me, I think it’s a great national team, and in the future they will be great, they have good players, and in the past, they were also great.” He told soccernet.ng.
Karim unfortunately faced some injuries, which caused him to lose his spot in the Germany squad. There were even rumors that he was called up to the U-21 squad but declined to play, which sparked a lot of discussion in Germany.
However, he did get called up to the 2022 World Cup squad, although he didn't get any playing time.
